Research Result First

This report documents a live hand-registration research run based on the workflow in the hand-reg domain research guide. Instead of starting from auction lists or expired domains, the process starts with approved zone files from ICANN CZDS, extracts active domains across multiple TLDs, studies naming patterns, generates .com candidates, and validates availability through direct WHOIS and registrar bulk search.

The strongest result from this run is:

DomainRegistrar StatusPrice SeenPriorityVerdict
assistpayroll.comAvailable$11.28/year retail, $6.79 first-year promoA-Best candidate from this run. Clear payroll, HR tech, and AI assistant positioning.
assistfiling.comAvailable$11.28/year retail, $6.79 first-year promoB+Good secondary candidate for tax filing, business filing, and compliance workflows.
bridgeprivacy.comAvailable$11.28/year retail, $6.79 first-year promoBInteresting B2B privacy/compliance brandable, but buyer signal is less direct.
assistcontract.comAvailable$11.28/year retail, $6.79 first-year promoBLegal AI angle is possible, but the singular phrase is less natural than stronger alternatives.

Buy at most 1-2 names from this first batch:

  • assistpayroll.com - strongest buy candidate
  • assistfiling.com - acceptable second buy if keeping a small hand-reg basket

1. Data Source and Approved Zone Files

The research started by requesting zone file access through ICANN CZDS. The following TLD zone files were approved and downloaded:

TLDExtracted Active DomainsResearch Use
.app2,560,995Useful for SaaS, tools, AI products, consumer apps, and developer-facing products.
.dev1,326,221Useful for developer tools, AI agents, infrastructure, code tools, and technical products.
.org12,484,728Large signal source, especially useful for healthcare, education, nonprofit, and public-service terms.
.studio199,339Useful for creative, media, design, product, and indie SaaS naming patterns.
.agency128,134Useful for service businesses, marketing agencies, consulting, and B2B service names.
.media97,300Useful for publishing, content, production, creator, and advertising patterns.
.finance35,552Useful for fintech, tax, accounting, payment, and compliance research.

Summary

  • Total extracted domain rows across the approved TLDs: 16,832,269
  • Non-org cross-TLD signal file created from .app, .dev, .studio, .agency, .media, and .finance
  • .org was kept as a separate signal source because it is very large and can introduce nonprofit or legacy-domain noise

2. Cross-TLD Signal Mining

The first serious filter was to identify SLDs that appear across multiple TLDs. This is useful because repeated usage across TLDs often indicates that a word or phrase is not random. It may already be used by real products, agencies, tools, or service businesses.

The non-org cross-TLD scan found:

DatasetResultMeaning
Cross-TLD non-org SLDs256,728SLDs appearing in at least two of .app, .dev, .studio, .agency, .media, and .finance.
Tax edge patterns125 signalsNames beginning or ending with tax, such as tax-focused SaaS and filing patterns.
Health edge patterns343 signalsNames beginning or ending with health, useful for healthcare SaaS, clinics, telehealth, and care products.
Legal edge patterns78 signalsNames beginning or ending with legal, useful for legal tech, contract automation, and compliance products.

This step also revealed an important filtering lesson: raw substring matching creates noise. For example, syntax contains tax, and claw contains law, but neither is useful for tax or legal domain research. The filter was adjusted to focus on edge patterns where the keyword appears at the beginning or end of the SLD.

3. Pattern Findings

The best research value did not come from copying exact SLDs. Most strong exact-match .com names are already taken. The value came from learning modifiers and naming directions that appear repeatedly across active TLDs.

ThemeObserved PatternResearch Interpretation
Payroll and HRassist, agent, sync, flow, ops, formsGood fit for AI assistant, workflow automation, support, and compliance tooling.
Tax and filingtaxgpt, taxoffice, taxwise, filing, refundStrong commercial intent, but consumer tax/refund names can become spammy if the wording is weak.
Healthhealthsync, healthhub, healthcloud, telehealth, digitalhealthVery strong category, but many obvious .com names are already registered.
Legallegalagent, legalstack, legalmind, legaltech, legaldocsLegal AI and document automation are attractive, but word order and pluralization matter a lot.
Privacy and compliancebridge, privacy, compliance, consent, dataUseful B2B category, especially when the name implies solving a compliance gap.

Key Insight

The zone file does not directly tell us which .com hand-reg is available. It tells us which naming patterns real websites are already using. The hand-reg opportunity appears after translating those patterns into new .com combinations and then checking availability.

4. Candidate Generation

Based on the pattern scan, a small candidate generator was created using commercial roots and modifiers.

Example roots:

  • tax
  • refund
  • filing
  • ledger
  • audit
  • payroll
  • books
  • clinic
  • dental
  • therapy
  • legal
  • contract
  • privacy

Example modifiers:

  • assist
  • agent
  • bridge
  • compass
  • flow
  • forms
  • hub
  • kit
  • lens
  • pilot
  • stack
  • sync
  • vault
  • wise

This generated 600 .com candidates. The first WHOIS batch focused on 120 names, then the interesting subset was retried and verified more carefully.

5. Direct .com WHOIS Results

The following candidates were checked directly against .com registry WHOIS. This is stronger than only relying on a registrar interface because it confirms whether the registry sees a match.

DomainDirect .com WHOIS StatusNotes
assistcontract.comAvailable at registryPossible legal tech / contract AI angle.
assistfiling.comAvailable at registryTax filing, business filing, compliance filing angle.
assistpayroll.comAvailable at registryBest commercial fit from the batch.
assistrefund.comAvailable at registryTax refund angle, but the name feels weaker and more consumer-spam adjacent.
baserefund.comAvailable at registryTechnically available, but phrase quality is weak.
bookscompass.comAvailable at registryAccounting/bookkeeping idea, but the word order is not ideal.
booksforms.comAvailable at registryPossible template/forms angle, but not strong enough for a priority buy.
bridgefiling.comAvailable at registryBusiness filing angle, but FilingBridge would read more naturally.
bridgeprivacy.comAvailable at registryPrivacy/compliance brandable with B2B potential.
bridgerefund.comAvailable at registryRefund recovery angle, but buyer pool is not clear enough.

Taken during the same check:

DomainStatusRegistrar / Date Signal
agentfiling.comTakenPorkbun LLC, created 2024-10-27
auditassist.comTakenCronon GmbH, created 2001-04-20
bridgeclinic.comTakenSpaceship, Inc., created 2011-07-06
carewise.comTakenNetEarth One Inc., created 1995-08-24

6. Registrar Confirmation

The strongest four names were then checked manually through a registrar bulk search:

DomainRegistrar ResultRetail PricePromo Price
assistpayroll.comAvailable$11.28/year$6.79 with NEWCOM679
assistfiling.comAvailable$11.28/year$6.79 with NEWCOM679
assistcontract.comAvailable$11.28/year$6.79 with NEWCOM679
bridgeprivacy.comAvailable$11.28/year$6.79 with NEWCOM679

This confirmation matters because direct WHOIS can show registry availability, but the registrar check confirms that the names are not being treated as premium inventory and can be registered at normal pricing.

7. Buyer Signal Notes

The external buyer signal is directional rather than conclusive. The goal is not to prove that a buyer already exists for the exact name. The goal is to confirm that the category has real commercial behavior.

CandidateBuyer AngleSignalRisk
assistpayroll.comAI payroll assistant, payroll support software, HR/payroll workflow help.Payroll is a high-value B2B category, and AI-assist positioning is already appearing in HR/payroll products. The name is descriptive rather than premium-brandable.
assistfiling.comTax filing help, business filing service, compliance filing workflow.Filing is a real commercial category across tax, incorporation, annual reports, and compliance. The phrase is broad and needs a clear vertical story.
bridgeprivacy.comPrivacy compliance, consent, data governance, privacy gap analysis.Privacy and compliance are strong B2B categories with real budgets.Bridge privacy can also appear as ordinary privacy-page wording for companies named Bridge, so signal is noisy.
assistcontract.comContract assistant, AI contract review, legal document workflow.Legal AI is a strong category. The singular wording feels less natural than contractassist or assistcontracts.

8. Final Verdict

DomainBuy RankDecisionReason
assistpayroll.com1BuyBest mix of commercial category, phrase clarity, AI-assist angle, and normal reg-fee availability.
assistfiling.com2Optional BuyGood compliance/tax/business-filing angle, but buyer story is broader and needs positioning.
bridgeprivacy.com3Watch / OptionalGood B2B category, but less direct than payroll or filing.
assistcontract.com4Skip for nowInteresting category, but wording is not strong enough for the first purchase.
